What is Safer Gambling?

Safer Gambling occurs in a regulated environment where the potential for harm associated with gaming is minimised, and people make informed decisions about their participation in gaming.

Warning Signs of Problem Gambling

Here are examples of gambling signs that your play is becoming problematic and could harm your life.

  • Preoccupation – spending much of your time thinking about betting.
  • Withdrawal – removing yourself from social and professional life so that you can place a bet.
  • Escape – using gambling as a coping mechanism.
  • Chasing losses – your motive from winning money changes to winning back the money you have already lost.
  • Lying – hiding how much you are spending or lying, for example, about: the amount of time you are gambling or the amount of money you have already lost

Know the odds when gambling

When considering a game you wish to play, we encourage you to know the chance of winning so you can make an informed choice. The rules of the games determine the house edge, which is the overall percentage of the monies wagered that the casino can retain. Different house edges apply to each game or wager.
